Great British Talent

We were invited by The National Association of Jewellers to join them at this years Jewellery and Watch show as part of their stand, Great British Talent. The NAJ saw us at last years International Jewellery London trade fair where we were faceting gemstones throughout the show, they loved our process and asked us if we would like to bring our equipment and rough stones along to Spring Fair and show the West Midlands what it was all about.

The Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham is Europe's largest concentration of businesses involved in the jewellery trade, which produces 40% of all the jewellery made in the UK. Historically the Jewellery Quarter has been the birthplace of many pioneering advancements in industrial technology, it's also the home town of our Nikki! Knowing we were going to be sharing the stand with so many talent and skilled crafts people, we packed up our faceting machine and set out on our 250 mile round road trip to the National Exhibition Centre.

Faceting is a new direction for The Rock Hound, our passion to promote greater transparency within the jewellery supply chain is what motivated us to learn new skills that enable us to shorten the gap between mine and market. By faceting gemstones in front of a live audience, we are essentially peeling away another layer of transparency and unveiling levels of design not usually seen by the consumer. We are keen to get conversations started about responsible sourcing and clear cut supply chains and the interactive element arouses intrigue and the desire to understand more whilst just being really fun to watch!

Being given the opportunity to show people the technical process was really interesting, some people thought it  therapeutic, others laborious, some were surprised at the length of time it took to facet a stone and others were in total awe having never seen anything like it before. We even had a few people within the jewellery industry who were surprised at the process as they had never been 'behind the scenes'. Our mission is to be an open book with our supply chain and processes, to disclose and share the story for each piece of jewellery we make and encourage people to follow and learn with us, every page of the way.

We had a blast, thank you for inviting us!
