Our Fair Luxury Pledge
In 2019 I was invited to join the team behind Fair Luxury. To be included amongst thirteen likeminded individuals with so much drive and passion to challenge this industry has really helped not only consolidate my own personal passion but helped drive The Rock Hound forward to be the best business we can be.
As individual designers, makers, traders and educators we’ve pledged to make changes and business decisions that are driven by more than just profit. In every aspect of our work we seek to ensure that we are achieving and maintaining a safe, sustainable and just industry for all. We dream of one day casting our minds back and feeling proud to place ourselves at the core of the revolution that transformed the jewellery trade for good.
Just like a New Year’s resolution, at the beginning of the year we took a Fair Luxury Pledge as a way of setting a goal for The Rock Hound.
“To adapt our pricing structure to encompass a donation upstream in our supply chain every time a customer makes a purchase. To raise at least £1000 within the next 12 months and to conclude the year with a breakdown of where those funds have reached and what they've achieved.”
In order to achieve this not only do we have the put structures in place to keep the money separate but we wanted to find the right channel for our donation to we were confident that the money was going to be used correctly.
We can now announce 5% of all sales at The Rock Hound will be donated to Crystal Clear CIC
Crystal Clear is a Community Interest Company with the primary social objective to reinvest profits back into the community, specifically to support and empower Artisanal Small Scale Miners.
2019 saw a significant rise in the popularity of healing crystals, but with out-dated and opaque supply chains it’s almost impossible to prove that these crystals have been responsibly sourced and mined. Crystal retailer, jeweller and sustainability advocate Jill Urwin, is on a mission to change this with the launch of Crystal Clear (CIC). This social enterprise will offer the world’s first verifiable and transparent mine to market crystals with a primary focus on improving the lives of artisanal mining communities around the world.
Funds will go to towards the following two projects:
COVID-19 Food Security
During COVID-19 we are deeply concerned for the vulnerable and elderly who are living remotely and facing food security issues. With the help of the team in the ground, we are putting together care packages to include food basics such as manioc flour, coffee, rice, beans, sugar, cooking oil, and crackers, plus sanitary basics such as soap, alcohol gel and face masks. Each care package will be a 2 week supply for a family of 4 and costs £20.00.
Safety Masks

Measuring Impact
We are working with a trusted team on the ground which includes members of the cooperative, the Health Secretary and the Majors Office to ensure the safe and fair allocation of funds. As a loyal donor, you will receive email updates with valuable qualitative and quantitative data… this means we won’t just send you the numbers, you’ll see and hear from the faces behind the numbers.
I think you’ll agree we’ve found the right channel for our donations and we’ll update as we go along how they’ve contributed to these communities.
